This year, we’re seeing an interesting mix of old-school technology (think vintage analog cameras and VHS camcorders for wedding photos and videos) paired right alongside cutting-edge tech (modern wedding websites and apps). We’re also noticing a clear shift toward small, intimate weddings spent with just the closest family and friends - for example, couples choosing a shared holiday getaway instead of a traditional big wedding. One of the more interesting trends we’re seeing gain steam (we already spotted a bit of it at weddings last year) is couples building their own wedding website. This was already a huge hit last year, and we think the trend is only going to grow in 2025! Wedding apps showed up at hundreds of weddings last year, and while they can be used for all sorts of things, the most popular feature by far is the QR code that lets guests upload their photos and videos straight from their phones. It turns every guest into part of the fun - they each become a “reporter” covering your wedding - while you end up with hundreds of gorgeous photos and videos capturing your day from angles you’d never get otherwise.

Small, intimate wedding

There’s no denying it - we’re seeing a real shift toward smaller, more intimate weddings. Big, boisterous weddings for several hundred guests, or multi-day celebrations that stretch into a second-day after-party, are becoming less common. More and more couples are choosing to celebrate with just their closest family and friends - often over lunch or dinner at a restaurant that wraps up in a few hours rather than lasting all night the way weddings used to. Part of what’s driving this is the rising share of civil ceremonies compared to church weddings. Couples are increasingly choosing a calmer, more intimate day with the people who matter most, while also saving a good chunk of money they’d otherwise spend on a much bigger event.

VHS camcorder

Disposable and analog cameras have become hugely popular in recent years, prized for the retro, vintage-style keepsake photos they produce. This year, we think old-school VHS camcorders are going to make an appearance at weddings too! It’s entirely possible to find old analog camcorders that still record onto a cassette tape rather than a memory card, and the footage that comes out has that unmistakable look of old home wedding videos - the kind that used to get played back on a VCR. These days, that VHS footage can easily be digitized onto a computer, so even though it was shot on old-school gear, you’ll still be able to watch it on your laptop or phone.

Zero-percent products

Another trend worth keeping in mind for your 2025 wedding is bringing zero-percent products into the celebration. More and more young people are choosing to skip alcohol altogether and reach for non-alcoholic alternatives instead - wine and champagne substitutes that taste similar to the real thing but contain no alcohol. It’s worth planning for guests who share this preference: you can pick up a few bottles of zero-percent alcohol, and if you’re hiring a bartending service, ask them to include mocktails on the menu as well. Zero-percent options aren’t limited to drinks, either - sugar-free beverages and gluten-free or lactose-free dishes are also becoming more and more common requests.

Wedding-slash-honeymoon

Vacation plus wedding equals the perfect plan? A trend that’s picking up steam is skipping the traditional reception and organizing a holiday trip for close family and friends instead. You have a small civil ceremony, then pack your bags and head straight to the airport. Instead of spending tens of thousands of euros on a wedding reception back home, more couples are choosing to put that money toward flights and accommodation for a handful of their nearest and dearest. This approach can be a great fit for couples who love to travel and would rather skip planning a big event for several hundred guests. A variation on this trend is holding the entire ceremony and reception abroad - popular destinations include Italy, Greece, Spain, and even Thailand.
